GUIDE TO CHOOSING MAKE UP FOR OILY/ACNE PRONE/SENSITIVE SKIN IN NIGERIA

SOURCE: OMABELLETV

Hey guys welcome back to the blog. Today I want to discuss something that's really important in the make up world and that is choosing the right make up for your skin type. There are so many makeup options out there and trying to figure out which works for you can be very tricky especially if you are a make up newbie. I will be referring specifically to oily girls like me, because that's my skin type and that's the type of makeup I know how to buy.

PRIMERS

The first base of most peoples make up these days is primer. Primers help to make your skin ready for makeup, so weather its large pores, oiliness or dryness there is a primer for you. If you have oily skin you should opt for oil free primers and primers which are specifically targeted at people with oily skin.

Silicone based primers(usually come out as a transparent thick plastic looking gel consistency) are always a bad idea. Silicone based primers I find are really great for masking pores but aren't great for oily skin, it just has a way of making the oiliness of your skin appear even more, they are better for those with normal to dry skin. There are really good primers that aren't silicone based, that still help with minimizing pores, like the benefit porefessional primer

A really good affordable oil control primer for oily skin is the Rimmel stay matte primer and the great part is that they are readily available in Nigeria, either online or at local beauty stores that carry foreign brands.
So long story short, silicone based primers are a NO, NO and go for primers specifically for those with oily skin.

FOUNDATION
When it comes to foundations, as oily skin girls we have to be on the look out and not pick just any foundation we see on the shelves  just because someone said its a good one or you know someone who uses it and it looks good on, you have to consider if the person has oily skin first.

If you have oily skin please opt for foundations which have words like matte or oil free or that specifically says for oily skin. I made a post on foundations for oily skin which can be readily found in Nigeria, you can check it out for some recommendations which I have.

CONCEALERS AND BLUSHES AND HIGHLIGHTS

When it comes to oily skin the more powder products you use on your face the better, so while for your under eye you definitely have to use a concealer, for contouring I recommend just using a bronzer alone or just a darker powder, instead of adding more grease to your face. The same recommendation goes for blushes, instead of applying cream blushes opt for powder versions and the same goes for highlighters.

POWDERS

While powders are generally meant to mattify your face and absorb as much oil as possible from your face, there are certain powders that definitely do a better job at that than others while making your face look nice and not cakey. I also do find that if you have extremely oily skin, loose powders work better at mattifying your make up than regular pressed powders. HERE are a few very affordable powders available in Nigeria which are great for oily skin.

BROWS

When it comes to brows, opt for products that aren't so creamy another tip is to set your brows with a loose powder before you apply your brow gels and pencils, just to keep that area mattified all day.

Thank you for reading today's blog post and I hope it helps you in some way. Do have a lovely day.

TOP FIVE AFFORDABLE OIL CONTROL POWDERS AVAILABLE IN NIGERIA

I was inspired to make this post by a discussion I over heard a couple of girls having at one of my local beauty supply stores. They were discussing about how their oil always still peeks out so much just a few minutes after applying their makeup.
I couldn't help but chip in, I told them first of all that there are certain steps to take to prepare your skin for makeup if you have oily skin, I also enlightened them about the best kind of foundation to use if they have oily skin and the kind of foundations to look out for as well, I then went ahead to let them know certain foundation mistakes lots of us Nigerians make which includes not setting your foundation with powder or with the right powder.

In today's post I am going to share some affordable powder perfect for people with oily skin here in Nigeria. In no particular order.

The first on my list is from classic makeup usa, this is a Nigerian brand which first got famous because of their matte lip glosses, but I got a wind of their powder and decided to try it out. I have already done a full review on this powder here and I have to say that for a powder that cost only 1,500 Naira, this right here is the bomb.com. It doesn't have that much of a shade range but I do feel everyone can find a shade they can work with. It also does not break me out and is great for me to use even without foundation i. e on its own. I am in the shade medium.

Just as stated above the classic powders are really great. This here is their loose powder, I got it because after trying their pressed powder I was curious as to how good the loose powders were and I have to say they are really good for people with oily skin. They also cost 1500 Naira. I usually use this powder to set my under eye concealer. I use the shade medium I find that medium in the loose form is kind of lighter than medium in the pressed powder form.

N.B: WHILE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEIR POWDERS I HAVE TO SAY I REALLY DID NOT ENJOY THEIR BANANA POWDER  AND I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.
ALSO THERE ARE SO MANY FAKES OF THE CLASSIC MAKEUP USA PRODUCTS SO I DO RECOMMEND YOU GO TO AN ACTUAL CLASSIC MAKEUP OUTLET TO GET YOURS.

IMAN is also another really good brand, it is a little bit pricier than the classic powder as it cost about 4500-5000 Naira. It is still not as expensive as many high end powders out there and it works just as well. This is very readily available in Nigeria and is great for helping you control oil on top of your foundation or on its own.

Zaron is a Nigerian brand, I believe my mum got this powder to test out and I loved it so much after trying it that I decided to get mine. I believe it this cost about 4000 Naira. Its good to apply on its own and also great for setting your foundation.

N.B|| THEY ALSO HAVE ANOTHER POWDER, IT COMES IN A WHITE PACKAGING I BELIEVE IT IS THE TRANSLUCENT ONE, I HONESTLY PREFER THIS ONE TO IT.

Someone will look at this and be like, whaaaa..... This powder is honestly always in my makeup kit. Its great at controlling oil and it contains salicylic acid which helps acne prone skin. I use this under my makeup as a primer whenever I am not in the mood to use my Rimmel stay matte primer and also whenever I run out of my powder to use to set my under eye concealer, I reach out to this one and it works kind of like the air spun powders.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY, PLEASE LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS, I WILL BE HAPPY TO RESPOND.

TOP FOUNDATION MISTAKES I SEE US MAKE

Hello, readers I am back with another blog post and today we will talk about something that has been bugging me basically since I even knew how to apply my own foundation was.

I am in no way claiming to be a make up guru, but I will just share some things I have learnt along the way.

USING A FOUNDATION THAT IS TOO LIGHT OR THAT HAS THE WRONG UNDERTONE.

The first thing I noticed especially since I started selling foundations is that no one wants to admit that they are actually darker than they are and always tend to go for foundations that are much lighter than they are. I guess its cuz of the whole obsession in Nigeria to be fairer. I also find that lots of Nigerian make up brands don't even give us a lot of options when it comes to foundation shades and I think it is partly cuz they know Nigerians want lighter shades.

The thing we don't know is that especially when it comes to trying to hide dark spots and things, using a foundation that is too light will make it appear worse, it's better to use a shade that's exactly your shade and undertone or at least very close or even a little darker, its always better than using something lighter, cuz you could counter it with highlighting and maybe contouring.

NOT BLENDING FOUNDATION COMPLETELY.

Another common mistake I see is when people don't blend their foundation properly into the ends of their faces and hair lines. I literally just saw this a few days back. There was literally a round foundation mark around her face, just like here in this photo.

Just get the right tools to blend your foundations properly  and take a little more time with blending your foundation into your hair line.

THINKING ITS OKAY TO NOT SET YOUR FOUNDATION.

This is one mistake that I don't understand why people with oily skin still make. I don't care how matte that foundation claims to be. Please set it with a powder either loose or pressed.

USING A FOUNDATION THAT IS BREAKING YOU OUT.

As an acne sufferer myself, I do realize that makeup doesn't necessarily break you out, but there are some which do. A lot of Nigerian brands I find don't necessarily cater to people with really sensitive skin, so often I opt for international brands when it comes to primer and foundation, not that there aren't international brands that will break you out, but there are a lot more that won't.

APPLYING TOO LITTLE FOUNDATION

If you have legit dark spots to cover, please don't apply foundation like you have blemishes, cuz that thing will peep through and you will look weird. I am not saying finish the foundation on your face but apply enough to cover your face as much as possible, or if you can afford to, you can buy a concealer then apply a little foundation and use a concealer to cover you spots.

NOT USING A FOUNDATION FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE.

This is very common with people with oily skin, I mean people with normal to even dry skin, they can get away with so many types of foundation. If you have oily skin, please go for foundations that are matte and this is cuz matte foundations have lesser amount of oils and liquids and are instead more concentrated and if you have dry skin as well, go for regular foundations. Here are afforable foundations perfect for people with oily skin.

NOT HAVING A SKIN PREP ROUTINE.

Now this is mostly for people with oily skin or really dry skin. Not having a good skin prep routine, weather its applying a moisturizer or primer or spray mist or oil can in the long run affect how your foundation looks, if you have dry skin try to moisturize with a good thick cream or a good oil before any foundation application. If you have oily skin like me here are some skin prep tips you could use.

NOT SETTING YOUR FOUNDATION WITH A POWDER; This mistake many people make and setting your foundation is key for making your make up last all day and also for reducing make up transfer on other surfaces. Especially if you have oily skin, please always make sure you set your foundation.

Thank you for dropping by the blog, feel free to ask questions and also drop any other foundation mistakes you have made or have see others make, lets laugh together.

6 MOST AFFORDABLE LONG LASTING FOUNDATION FOR OILY SKIN AND SENSITIVE ACNE PRONE SKIN AVAILABLE IN NIGERIA.

Welcome ladies and gentlemen, actually welcome back ladies but if you are a guy and you are on here, it's okay there is absolutely no judgement...lol,

I have been meaning to make a blog post like this for a while now. I have really oily and acne prone skin like my regular blog readers know, and when choosing a foundation, its not only about the brand or its coverage ability, it is also important for me to get a foundation that will hold it's own against the huge amount of oil my glands produce on daily basis..lol. It is also really important for me to use a foundation that will not cause me any more pimples because I do have really sensitive and acne prone skin.

Below are the foundations that are tested and trusted that worked great for me and other people.

This is the maybelline fit me matte and poreless foundation  and it is my best affordable foundation in the market today. I absolutely love it, the foundation cost anywhere from 4000-5000 naira and this is also a good dupe for the estee' lauder foundation.

The covergirl trublend matte made foundation is number two on this list. I also have a review of this foundation up on my blog and even though this is just as good if not even better than the maybelline matte and poreless foundation, this has the number two spot because unlike maybelline the foundations, this is a little harder to find in Nigeria. It cost about 5000-6000naira and it is worth every penny.
To purchase this you could check Instagram and online store, just make sure they are legit.

The l'oreal infalliable foundation is probably harder to get here in Nigeria, but certain online stores do carry this brand. This foundation is amazing but like I said in my review the shade range isn't as wide, I believe there are just 12 shades and I am in the shade112 cocoa.

Though I am yet to make a review on this foundation, this foundation is absolutely amazing. it retails in Nigeria betweeen 4000-4500, the shade range is not as good as the fit me but its better thanvthe l'oreal. It a mousse so its a really matte finish and it is perfect for oily skin especially during the very sweaty season. I also love this dream matte mousse because I don't necessarily have to set it with a powder.(but because I am so extra,I probably will).

For some reason people don't talk about this foundation as much but this is also a really good foundation, yes its not as matte as the rest but it really good for everyday use and it will not break you out which is very important to me. The coverage is light coverage but buildable. It retails for 5000-5500naira and it is number five on list because of the cost and comparing it to the function and cost of those above it.

The last on my list will have to be the classic makeup usa foundation. This retails for 2000 naira and its a super matte foundation, this is also the only foundation on my list that is from a Nigerian brand. The two things I don't really like about this foundation is the fact that the shade range is very limited with I believe 4 or 5 shades and also the fact that it is not so easy blend for some reason. Other than that this is a really good foundation.

WHAT FOUNDATION HAVE YOU TESTED LATELY? LEAVE ALLCOMMENTS BELOW, I WILL DEFINITELY GET BACK TO YOU.

MAYBELLINE FIT ME MATTE AND PORELESS VS MAYBELLINE SUPER STAY FOUNDATION FOR OILY SKIN

I have really oily skin and whenever I hear that a foundation is matte or claims to have superstay, I tend to want to gravitate towards it. I bought the maybelline fit me around the time it came out and I absolutely loved and still love it.

When the superstay foundation came out, it was advertised to be a better version of the maybelline fit me and I have since wandered if it is better or worse than the maybelline fit me and if you are reading this, you probably are too. You can buy the maybelline foundations in Nigeria at your local beauty supply store.

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE MAYBELLINE FIT ME AND SUPER STAY.

  • They are both matte.
  • They are both oil free.
  • They are both the same size.
  • The shade range of the maybelline fit me is better than the super stay.
  • Maybelline super stay oxidizes i.e gets darker after a while, so be very careful before you buy the wrong shade. Never assume that your shade in fit me will be your shade in superstay.
  • Super stay has better coverage than fit me.
  • Super stay comes with a pump but fit me doesn't.
  • Maybelline fit me is cheaper(In Nigeria fit me ranges from (4000-6000 and superstay ranges from 5000-7000 naira).
  • The maybelline fit me has a longer staying power than the superstay. If you have oily skin the maybelline fit me will last longer for you than the superstay,
In conclusion when I weigh the pros and cons of the two foundations, I have to say that I prefer the maybelline fit me over the maybelline super stay for my oily skin, I hate when foundations oxidize and the fact that the maybelline fit me holds in my oils and last longer makes it better for me.

However, if you have normal to dry skin, the maybelline super stay will be good for you. The maybelline fit me is not for people with dry skin.

COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION, D70 CAPPACINO REVIEW AND 12HR WEAR TEST

COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION..D70 CAPPACINO

Covergirl is a US based drugstore makeup brand, and honestly I have never used anything from covergirl before and was excited so to try this. The reviews on this trublend foundations looked really good so I decided to tell you my opinion about it. I bought this from amazon.com for about $10 and I got mine in the shade D70 cappacino.
this is what my skintone is

covergirl trublend matte made foundation D70

WHAT IT SAYS ON COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION

Comfort matte, transfer resistant, oil free formular, pump application included.

What I love about this foundation is that it doesn't say much on the bottle.

what it looks like just applied

MY VERDICT ON THE COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION.

First of all I did buy this for less than $10 which is honestly a steal. In terms of affordability this is a 5 star. ( In Nigeria this foundation retails for 6000-8000 naira). I do have oily skin so I am always in search of good matte foundations like the maybelline fit me and the l'oreal infalliable foundation which I reviewed on the blog.

This foundation is really thick and not runny at all, I believe that is why it is necessary that it came with a pump or it will be difficult to bring out from the container.

It also comes in 40 shades which is great because everyone can find their shade match.

When they say this foundation is matte, they weren't kidding at all. It is really matte and D70 is my not exact shade, it's slightly darker , next time I will get D50 although with a good highlight, I do get away with this shade. I compared it to maybelline fit me and l'oreal infalliable pro-matte and while they are all similar in finish I will have to say that Covergirl is a bit thicker inconsistency. However the finish of this foundation is very similar to the l'oreal infalliable pro-matte.

There are times that I do mix the l'oreal and covergirl together just because the "l'oreal 112 cocoa" does have more of a red undertone than the covergirl and like I said the D70 is darker.

Another thing I look for in a foundation because I do have acne prone skin is a foundation that will not break me out and worsen my situation or clog my pores. This does not feel heavy at all, its medium to full coverage but still so light weight, it didn't clog my pores or break me out further and I have used this quiet a bit.

Its also great that it is oil-free

I wore this foundation for 12 hrs, I used my rimmel stay matte primer because I have really really really oily skin.

12hr wear test on the covergirl trublend matte and poreless foundation.

After about 5 hours my nose got a little oily but nothing too crazy at about 10 hours my face got really oily as seen above, which is expected in fact the fact that it stayed this long before it got really oily is amazing.

Once I blotted  out the oil with a single ply tissue paper, it was okay again as seen above and I loved that.

I give this a 5 star rating and as of now this is my favourite foundation.

COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATION VS MAYBELLINE FIT ME MATTE AND PORELESS FOUNDATION

Hello everyone, welcome back to the blog.We all know covergirl released a new foundation last year and I am sure that some of us have been wandering how good it is compared to other staple drugstore foundations, like the maybelline fit me and the l'oreal infalliable pro-matte foundations".

In today's blog post I am going to be comparing the "covergirl" trublend matte made foundation to the maybelline fit me matte and poreless foundations.

SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE MAYBELLINE FIT ME MATTE AND PORELESS FOUNDATIONS AND THE COVERGIRL TRUBLEND MATTE MADE FOUNDATIONS.

  • They both have 40 shades to choose from. So in terms of shade range, they are both equal.
  • They are both matte but the covergirl trublend is a little more matte than the maybelline fit me matte and poreless foundation.
  • The covergirl trublend matte made foundation has a pump, the maybelline fit me matte and poreless does not have a pump.
  • The covergirl cost about $10 in the USA (in Nigeria it is sold for about 6-8000 naira) while the maybelline cost about $6 (in Nigeria it is sold for about 4-6000naira).
  • They both are great for people with acne prone skin in the sense that it will not break you out.
  • They are both oil free.
  • They both do not oxidize, what you see is what you get.
  • They are both the same size.
  • The covergirl is thicker in consistency than the maybelline fit me foundation.

SWATCHES OF THE COVERGIRL MATTE MADE IS THE FIRST ONE AND THE MAYBELLINE IS THE SECOND ONE.

  • The covergirl offers just a little better coverage than the "maybelline fit me".

Finally, I am very conflicted when it comes to these two. I love that the maybelline isn't so thick in consistency and allows me time to really blend in my foundation to my skin before it dries to a matte finish, but I love that the covergirl matte made foundation has a pump.

The covergirl will be the better choice I believe especially if you have very oily skin. If you are under a budget you can as well get the maybelline fit me, I still love it equally and it is cheaper.

HAVE YOU USED EITHER OF THESE FOUNDATIONS? WHICH DID YOU PREFER?

CLASSIC MAKEUP USA LOOSE POWDER REVIEW

CONS OF THE L'OREAL PARIS INFALLIABLE PRO-MATTE FOUNDATION

  1. The shade range is really bad, it has maybe 12 shades, so while this is a really good foundation, finding your shade maybe a lil' difficult.
MY FINAL VERDICT
This foundation is amazing, if you can find your shade of course, but even if you can't, you can mix it with whatever foundation you have to mattify it, I like to mix mine with my maybelline matte+poreless foundation.
RATING: 4.5 STAR (just because the shade range is too little).

CLASSIC MAKEUP USA BANANA PRO SETTING POWDER REVIEW AND FIRST IMPRESSSIONS

I love makeup and I have always wanted to try the whole under eye highlighting and baking{lasma, I know}, but I was always scared. I decided not to be anymore and purchase this classic makeup usa banana pro setting powder and give it a try and here are my thoughts.

CLASSIC MAKEUP USA BANANA SETTING POWDER

I bought this for 1200 naira, this powder actually does not say much on the packaging, just that it is oil free and oil control. It looks very similar to other setting powders like the ben nye powder.

MY VERDICT ON THE MAKEUP USA PRO SETTING BANANA POWDER

First off the packaging is pretty neat and expensive looking which was nice but when I opened the powder itself I realized that the holes which allow the powder come out are wide so I would recommend that you always keep the powder upright or you may waste it.
I used it to bake my under eye as seen above. I noticed how finely milled it was and also that it immediately sucked in all the oiliness from my concealer, so that was awesome.
It wasn't so easy wipe off all the powder but it did come off, I also noticed it was quite powdery.

This setting powder is very affordable at 1200 naira, but I will recommend you use this on top of a cream concealer and if you use it on a matte concealer don't bake for too long or it may be too ashy looking especially if you have dry under eye. A setting spray could also help make it look less ashy.

Over all I give this a 3 out of 5 stars. Its a great buy especially if you are on a budget or a starter. I have been using mine and its very okay.

After using classic makeup usa setting powder
